NEW YAM FESTIVAL:
The new yam festival is the most popular in nearly the
entire yam producing peoples of the state, stretching
from Akamkpa to Obudu. The period of celebration runs
from August to October of every year. The month and
date for the celebration varies from one locality to
the other depending on their planting seasons. This
colourful ceremony is a period for thanksgiving.
THE BOAT REGATTA FESTIVAL:
The ceremonial regatta was usually celebrated
once a year among the Efiks to mark their various
conquests in tribal wars in the ancient days.
There are now two types of regatta - the ceremonial
and the competitive.
Presently, the ceremonial regatta
is observed during the coronation of the new Efik
(Edidem). On the other hand, the competitive regatta
is a social event for entertainment by the Efik
and Qua communities respectively. It is generally
staged when the waters of the river are at high
tide. |

OTABA FESTIVAL:
The festival is celebrated once every seven years by the Mbembe people of Obubra Local Government Area of the State.
EFU FESTIVAL:
"Efu" in Bahumuno language means wresting. The festival is observed once every two years from June to August.
ANAKA MBE FESTIVAL:
This festival is celebrated during the month of May among the Mbembe people of Ogoja LGA to herald the commencement of successes of rich harvests.
FATTENING FESTIVAL:
This ceremony marks the transition of young girls from maidenhood to womanhood and is characterised by the fattening exercise called NKUHO among the Efiks and MONINKIM among the Ejaghams.
Maidens are exposed to the intricacies and demands of womanhood preparatory to their assuming such roles in the society.
AJI FESTIVAL: This festival is an annual event celebrated in the various wards in Agbo tribe in Abi Local Government Area. It has religious and social connotations.
The people, during this period pay homage to their ancestors and pray for good health and another successful year amongst the people. Presently, the Christmas season is the period of celebration.
ATUMIBI FESTIVAL:
This is a type of war dance and ritual with spiritual and mystical significance celebrated by the Ogoja people. The festival brings the old and the young together and reminds the youths that war is evil.
Socially, it promotes healthy competition among the age groups.
